Jesus gave my life meaning and direction. By emulating His life, I became a better person and began to really care about the plight of the needy and those without hope or a sense of self worth. He gave me gifts money cannot buy. He gave me an ability to be selfless, peace, security and confidence in Him and in myself.
He loved me when I least deserved it and as a result I have learnt to extend the same kind of love to those I may have found difficult to love if I did not know Him.
And that’s not even the best of it. He gave me the Holy Spirit. He gave me Himself. And made the Father reachable to me through his death on the cross. I’d want this for everyone, and I am driven by this thought always, “ seriously? If they only knew, they’d want this too!" My plan is to tell as many as I can about the goodness of the Lord. The goodness I live and breathe everyday. And I won't stop!
I had a chance to visit Taita taveta county in coastal Kenya for the first time in the year 2013 just before my husband and I were married. My husband comes from Taita Taveta. Over the years, I have had a chance to interact with my kins and their neighbors on a personal level. I have had a chance to visit the health facilities within the county too. It is rather unfortunate that the whole of this county is served by one County Hospital and with few healthcare workers, and even fewer doctors or specialists in Family Medicine.
The specialists are a handful for the population and are available only on specific days as they run their own private clinics. On many occasions, I have found myself doing over the phone consultations with a number of people. As a result of this, most of the people here seek health services from neighbouring Tanzania especially when in need of specialized care that is unavailable at the County Hospital. Most of the people in Taita Taveta are cultural Christians, predominantly Anglican & Catholics with a few Protestants & Muslims. It is also a relatively poor county. It would be fulfilling to offer my services to this underprivileged and underserved population.
