Meet a MedSend National Scholar: Dr. Peter Ronald from Kenya

We continue reflecting this month on the theme of family practice medicine in the context of Christian healthcare missions.
Scripture tells us “everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Ephesians 4:32) and as followers of Christ, it’s up to each one of us to determine who in our communities needs us to care for them.
Meet MedSend National Scholar Peter Ronald
Dr. Peter Ronald lives out of love for his community through his medical studies in a family practice residency program in Kenya.
Dr. Ronald was born into a Christian family and grew up attending Bible studies both at home and in his local church. At the age of 10, he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior during a study session at church. He’s been walking with Jesus ever since.
Sharing the love of Jesus in Kenya
Currently, Dr. Ronald is serving others around him with the love and care he reflects from Jesus onto others. He sees his relationship with Jesus as central to his ability to work effectively with healthcare teams.
“Being a Christian doctor helps me,” he says. “I am able to have timely consults for better management of patients under me, to assist other doctors with their workloads, and to seek out thriving Christian doctor fellowships which I can be part of for growth.”
Developing a Christian philosophy of care
Dr. Ronald also credits his relationship with Jesus for providing a framework for compassionate healthcare.
“I yearn for my patients to receive the most humane care I can give them, not only in the management of whatever condition they present with,” he says, “but also that they will feel the warmth and love that Christ has put into my heart for them.”
In addition to caring for the physical healing of his patients, Dr. Ronald also attends to needs for spiritual healing that present themselves alongside bodily symptoms.
“I take time to pray for them on certain days at the end of my working day, during calls, and also take time sometimes to pray with and share God’s message with them.”
