I am a doctor at a 206 bed hospital in rural Zambia. Since there are currently only 5 doctors working at the hospital, I rotate through all different parts of the hospital including obstetrics, pediatrics, adult medicine and surgery. Our goal is to provide excellent medicine and show the love of Jesus to the patients we serve. For me this comes from directly talking to my patients about Jesus and their current beliefs and also teaming with our chaplains and referring patients to them for them to minister to and help with spiritual and social needs.
By receiving the MedSend grant I was able to leave immediately for the mission field to answer God's call to serve the people of Zambia instead of waiting 5-10 years to pay off my loans. I have been able to learn skills in the past 5 years that I would not have learned in the US and now that we are short on medical staff I am able to use those skills to assist in ways that I would not have been able to had I not received the onsite training over the past 5 years.
