A Mother’s Hope

Mother and Child Burundi

“In this society, a woman’s entire value is wrapped up in her ability to bear children. If she doesn’t have kids it is grounds for divorce legally and so a lot of women are very desperate when they come to me.”

Dr. Rachel McLaughlin, a Serge missionary and MedSend grant recipient, serves as an obstetrician-gynecologist in Burundi. Burundi is one of the poorest nations on earth. Daily, she sees the toll that poverty and lack of access to healthcare take on communities, and specifically on mothers. In this video, Dr. McLaughlin shares the story of God’s redemptive work and of the tangible hope that can be seen as of one of her patients: a mother, who after suffering several miscarriages, is determined to bring her child into the world.
