Dr. Perry Jansen’s journey began with a heartfelt prayer overlooking the Olympic Mountains, seeking God’s direction. Shortly after, he and his family felt the undeniable pull toward medical missions in Malawi, one of the poorest nations in the world.
“God loosened our grip on our plans and opened a path we never imagined,” Dr. Jansen recalls. His arrival in Malawi coincided with the devastating HIV/AIDS epidemic. “Sixty percent of my patients were dying from HIV, and I had very little to offer them,” he shared.

Building Partners in Hope
Motivated by the immense need for HIV treatment, Dr. Jansen founded Partners in Hope, a Malawian-led organization that now serves over 200,000 patients annually. Through this initiative, he established a sustainable model of Christ-centered care.
One of Dr. Jansen’s most significant contributions is his work in training and mentoring national healthcare professionals. “The best way to ensure lasting change is to invest in local leaders,” he explains. He has trained countless Malawian doctors, nurses, and administrators, empowering them to lead the way in transforming their communities.
This focus on building local capacity has not only multiplied the impact of Partners in Hope but also created a ripple effect throughout Malawi’s healthcare system. By equipping nationals with the skills and knowledge to lead, Dr. Jansen’s work has planted seeds for a thriving, self-sustaining medical infrastructure.
