A Calling to Heal and Serve

For Dr. Faith Lelei, medicine has always been more than just treating physical ailments—it’s a tool for evangelism and a way to share God’s love. “We are passionate about using healthcare as a tool for evangelism and reaching out to many, not only in Kenya but even beyond,” she shares.

As a MedSend National Scholar, Dr. Lelei completed her family medicine residency at Kijabe Hospital in partnership with Kabarak University. Her training equipped her with the medical expertise and spiritual foundation she needed to become a leader in healthcare missions.

Training the Next Generation of Healthcare Leaders

Dr. Lelei is not only a physician but also a mentor and leader shaping the future of healthcare in Kenya. She helps train and guide family medicine residents, ensuring they are equipped to provide quality care in underserved communities. “We now have graduates who have gone to more rural hospitals, so we can send residents into those areas for their cross-cultural exposure and training,” she explains.

Her role also includes overseeing Kijabe Hospital’s satellite clinics, which provide essential care to marginalized populations. She’s working to expand training sites to accommodate more residents and strengthen primary healthcare across Kenya.

Bringing Christ-Centered Care to Patients

One of the most rewarding aspects of Dr. Lelei’s work is the opportunity to bring hope to patients beyond just their physical needs. She recalls a particularly heartbreaking case of a woman who had struggled to conceive for years, only to learn that her unborn child had multiple anomalies incompatible with life. Dr. Lelei and her team walked alongside her, providing both medical care and spiritual support.

“She reached out two weeks later and said, ‘That was a very difficult circumstance, but I am so glad that we walked through it with Kijabe. I already feel peace. I already feel the Lord’s comfort. I know that the Lord has my life in His hands.’”

Stories like these highlight how integrating faith and medicine can transform lives—not just in healing bodies, but in strengthening hearts and souls.
