Gerard’s Story

gerard patient kibuye

One night, while Grant Recipient Dr. Theodore John was on call at Kibuye Hope Hospital in Burundi, a man named Gerard was in a car accident. Gerard had multiple injuries which required immediate surgery. In most other parts of Burundi where there are no surgeons and limited access to care, he would have surely succumbed to his injuries. But in this case, he happened to be near Kibuye where Dr. John serves as a healthcare missionary through the support of MedSend.

In the operating room, there were times when Gerard’s blood pressure was quite low, and Dr. John wasn’t sure if Gerard would survive. After his condition stabilized, Dr. John had a chance to talk with Gerard and explain to him that he nearly died the night he arrived. Together they thanked God that Gerard was still alive, and they prayed for complete healing. Dr. John tells us that Gerard smiled back at him with a look of encouragement and hope.

It is a joy and blessing for me to care for sick and injured patients like Gerard in rural Burundi. And it is my daily prayer that patients who come to our hospital experience the love of Christ and turn to God as they receive good quality, compassionate care,” Dr. John says.

When you give to MedSend, you bring health and hope into communities with little access to medical care and the love of Jesus. Because of the generosity of our donors, grant recipients reach places we cannot reach and are welcomed into spaces we cannot go. Will you partner with us in making a difference for Christ through healthcare missions?
