The Rising Risks for Healthcare Missionaries
The volatile political climate and security threats in many parts of the world pose significant safety risks for healthcare missionaries serving in those areas. The threat of violence, kidnapping, and terrorism can create an unsustainable and dangerous living and working environment, adding to the load of stress inherent in delivering compassionate healthcare in low-resource communities.
The Longevity Project: Support for Every Stage
MedSend Alum CS* has served in very dangerous areas and faces these stressors daily. When The Longevity Project came to her attention last year, she jumped at the opportunity to be involved and deeply appreciates that the project includes those who are more senior in their journey, recognizing the need for support and encouragement at every stage.
“I’m a general surgeon, and I have served in cross-cultural settings for about 17 years now and I am so grateful for MedSend and for The Longevity Project throughout my entire journey. This organization has been so dear to me. In fact, in helping me to repay my loans, they are the reason that I’m able to be here still and to serve and I’m just so grateful,” CS says.
A Unique and Invaluable Support System
CS believes the kind of support offered through MedSend’s Longevity Project is distinct and invaluable.
“The MedRefresh Retreat is another incredible example. At this retreat, you come alongside [others] who have served globally, sharing diverse experiences but a common heart for people to know Jesus. Here, we receive tried and true content gleaned from years of working with cross-cultural workers, coupled with the opportunity to process this content with peers. This environment fosters a sense of lightheartedness and support as we realize that others share similar experiences. [MedRefresh] also offers debriefing with people who have substantial experience supporting our work. They understand, love Jesus, and can point us to Him while helping us with our specific needs. I am immensely thankful for The Longevity Project, MedSend, and all of you who give and serve to make this possible,” she shares.
