Training National Doctors in Kenya: Dr. Carol Spears’ Mission

When Dr. Carol Spears transitioned from a corporate career to medicine, she never imagined that God would lead her to impact global healthcare in such a profound way. Today, she serves at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, helping to equip the next generation of national doctors through medical training and mentorship.

“After years of serving in Africa and the Middle East, I’ve seen firsthand that training national doctors is one of the most effective ways to create lasting change,” Dr. Spears shares. “These doctors go on to serve their communities in ways that I never could.”

Building Sustainable Healthcare

Dr. Spears has been instrumental in launching medical training programs in Kenya, ensuring that highly skilled national doctors can serve their own people. She is deeply invested in mentorship, working alongside African physicians who will shape the future of healthcare in their communities.

“I now see consultant-level doctors—many of whom I trained—leading their own hospitals and mentoring new physicians,” she says. “They are multiplying the impact of what we started.”

A Future of Healing and Hope

Through MedSend’s support, Dr. Spears and others like her are not only treating patients but also empowering national doctors to become leaders in their field. This model of sustainable healthcare ensures that care continues long after missionaries have left.

“MedSend has been with me from the start—paying off my student loans so I could go straight to the field, and now supporting national doctors who will carry this mission forward,” Dr. Spears says. “I am forever grateful.”
