Walking Together: National Scholars Program Impact

How the National Scholars Program Empowers Doctors Like Faith Lelei

“To me, providing healthcare without spiritual care is incomplete,” says Dr. Faith Lelei. “That is one of the reasons I love working with MedSend—because of the realization that healthcare is a platform to share the love of Christ.”

Faith’s journey began with a simple but profound question: “Why must people come all the way from overseas to treat people in my country? Could I do that?” This question, sparked by a childhood television program about Christian medical missionaries, planted a seed that would guide her entire career.

After completing her medical training, Faith became the only physician at a 30-bed rural hospital. The workload was intense—she performed surgeries, managed an HIV clinic, and provided critical care. It was during these years that Faith realized the profound need for comprehensive, compassionate healthcare rooted in the gospel.

From 2015 to 2019, Faith received critical support through the program to complete her advanced medical training in Africa. Today, she continues to provide compassionate care while integrating spiritual guidance for patients facing life’s hardest moments.

Togetherness: The Strength of Community

In the demanding world of healthcare, isolation is common. But for Faith, the National Scholars Program provided more than financial assistance—it offered a community of like-minded professionals. “It’s very difficult to do it alone,” Faith shares. “We hold each other accountable, check in on one another, and reflect together through Bible study during our training program. That togetherness encourages and enriches us.”

Her story highlights the program’s commitment to sustaining healthcare workers through both professional and spiritual support, ensuring they do not walk their journey alone.

A Nine-Year-Old’s Peace and Eternal Hope

Faith’s work extends far beyond physical healing. She recalls walking alongside a nine-year-old patient who, after exhausting every line of treatment, faced the reality of the end of his life. “The peace and joy he has in Jesus, knowing he is going to meet his Lord and Maker, is something I always cherish,” Faith says. “It’s hard, but rewarding and fulfilling.”

These moments define Faith’s calling—to not only treat bodies but to care for souls, bringing the love of Christ to those facing life’s most profound questions.

Your Gift Has Eternal Impact

To MedSend donors, Faith offers a heartfelt message: “Asante sana” (thank you very much). “Your investment has a reward here on earth, but an even greater, eternal reward in heaven,” she says. “When I care for a patient from a remote part of the country, you are part of that journey. Great is your reward in heaven.”

With your support, more doctors like Faith can receive the training and spiritual care they need to serve in the world’s hardest-to-reach places. As we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, your gift is more critical than ever. Every $3.59 you give helps provide life-saving care to one patient through the National Scholars Program. Will you join us in empowering more doctors to bring healing and hope?
