Mental Health Missions in London

A Story of Redemption and Hope

Psychiatry PA Joshua Cobb didn’t expect one of his earliest therapy cases in London to be a battle between life and death. As he began treatment for a young woman overwhelmed by depression and past suicide attempts, he relied on two things: God’s faithfulness and the prayers of MedSend supporters who stood with him.

“There was no way we would be able to be [in London] for at least another 25 years if it weren’t for MedSend,” Josh says. “My loans were too much, and no mission organization was going to accept us. Because of MedSend, we have been able to share the gospel and see people come to faith in a city of 8 million [non-Christian’s] and help train churches to better care for their congregations and the lost through mental health.” As of January 2025, it is estimated that only 35% of those living in the United Kingdom believe in the existence of God.*

“She is doing truly amazing…”

G**, one of Josh’s first therapy cases in London, is now a follower of Jesus and attends a Bible study led by Josh. Her story is a powerful testimony of what God can do through mental health missions in London.

“She is here because you were pleading with me to the Father on her behalf… She is doing truly amazing, and her life looks the polar opposite of what it did just a few years back,” Josh shares.

G gave permission to share her story in her own words:

“I suffered with depression and anxiety for 10 years… I had attempted to take my life 12 times, and 6 of those were in 2022. During this time, I was introduced to Josh, a Christian therapist, who God used to guide me. At first, I was skeptical… but something kept bringing me back. It was God. Fast forward to now; I am living life, rather than just surviving… all thanks to God, who took great mercy on my life and saved it, and the therapist He used in my life to help me through the worst year of my life was Josh.”

Whole-Person Healing Through the Gospel

Beyond therapy, G’s story is about transformation through the gospel. MedSend donors made it possible for Josh to be in London, standing in the gap at G’s lowest point.

“I hope this [message] was an encouragement that your prayers and encouragement are making a difference,” Josh says. “As believers, we are all called to be part of missions—either as goers, senders, or supporters. You are all senders… and when we are all in heaven, you can celebrate in person with people like G.”
