How Mercy Medical Center in Cambodia Trains Great Doctors in Christ

Called to More Than Medicine

For Dr. Pranha, becoming a doctor wasn’t originally his idea—it was his parents’ dream. Like many families in Cambodia, they hoped their child would enter the medical profession. But after years of study and serving in the medical field, Dr. Pranha began to sense a deeper purpose.

“After I spent so many years in the medical field, I realized that it was not just what my parents want. I think it’s also what God called me to be: a doctor.”

That calling led him to MedSend partner organization Mercy Medical Center in Cambodia in Phnom Penh, a place where healing the body goes hand-in-hand with caring for the soul.

An Answered Prayer and a Lifelong Mission

During his final year of Cambodia’s eight-year medical program, Dr. Pranha prayed for God to guide his next steps. Months later, a call came from Dr. Sabarunje, inviting him to join MMC’s residency program, sponsored by MedSend.

“I was surprised. Oh, it’s something from God. I think it’s important to trust and respond to God’s calling.”

That step of faith has equipped Dr. Pranha not only with advanced medical skills but with a renewed mission—to care for patients with the love of Christ and introduce them to the hope found only in Him.

Why MedSend’s Support Matters in Cambodia

Cambodia faces significant healthcare challenges, especially in rural areas where access to trained doctors is limited. By supporting MMC’s residency program through MedSend, donors help train national doctors like Dr. Pranha—doctors who will remain in their communities for decades, multiplying both physical healing and gospel impact.

“Thank you very much for MedSend, and everyone who supports MedSend… A lot of Cambodian doctors need this training so they could become a great doctor, and especially a great doctor in Christ also.”
