When you meet one of our National Scholars in Cambodia, you quickly understand why this program matters so deeply. Dr. Rothavi’s story begins long before she ever put on a white coat—long before she knew her dream would be possible.
Dr. Rothavi grew up wanting to become a doctor, but her family’s financial challenges made it impossible. “My two sisters needed to go to university also, and my family had financial issues… they could not support me,” she explained. For four years she worked as an accountant, praying for direction. “It was not my dream [to be an accountant], so I prayed to God for a way that I could go [to medical school].”
Year after year, she applied to medical school. Every year, the cost kept the door closed.

“I thank God so much [for His blessings]… my dream came true to finish medical school,” she shared. And yet, her deepest dream was bigger than a degree:
“My expectation is still to serve God through my faith.”

“Before I talk about Jesus, I have to build a relationship… then they open their heart and I gently talk to them.”
